Vitamin B5 is present in all living cells. In fact, the word “pantothenic” comes from the Greek word “pantos,” meaning “everywhere.” This vitamin has been found to be important to metabolism where it functions as part of the molecule coenzyme A (CoA). When functioning as coenzyme A, it is helpful in supporting the adrenal cortex, which is one of the reasons B5 is known as the “anti-stress” vitamin. Nutritionally, Vitamin B5 has been used to aid fatigue and stress and assist with nerve disorders, allergies aggravated by fatigue and stress, alcoholism, teeth grinding and to stimulate GI peristalsis. Some research has shown positive results from the use of calcium pantothenate in reducing the arthritis symptoms of joint pain and stiffness.
