Navajo craftsman, Steve Francisco, has fashioned some beautiful tips of Larimar Inlay in Sterling Silver to accent this lovely watch. The tips measure approximately 1-1/8" long and vary from 1/2" to 1/4" in width. The watch face is white with black marks for the numbers--very easy to read. There is a bear in the center of the watch! What a beauty. It all just coordinates beautifully. It is a SelecTime Quartz Watch with an expandable band. The watch is approximately 1" in diameter.
THE BEAR STORY: Many Native American Tribes honored the spirit of the bear as a magical being, the Shaman of the animal world. The Bear is considered a totem for healing, protection and good fortune.
LARIMAR Larimar is found in one square kilometer, on one island in the whole world--The Dominican Republic. On 22 November 1916 Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren of requested permission at the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Mining to explore and exploit the mine of a certain blue rock he had discovered. Since nobody knew what the priest was talking about, the request fell through and the blue stone discovery was delayed. In 1974, Miguel Mendez discovered the only known deposit of Larimar in the Dominican Republic. Miguel promptly took his young daughter's name Larissa and the Spanish word for the sea (mar) and formed Larimar, by the colors of the water of the Caribbean Sea, where it was found.Originally, Larimar was thought to be a water stone because it was found on the beach near the water. It was later realized that it was in sediment washed down to the beach and into the sea by the Bahoruco River. The source was traced back up the mountain. The Los Chupaderos mine soon was formed to tap the only known larimar outcropping in the world.Larimar is Pectolite, a hydrothermal mineral, and ranges from 5 to 7 on the Mohs Hardness scale -- where Diamonds are the hardest at 10. The darker the piece is, the harder it is. The patterns in the stone (clouds, spider web, coral head) are determined by how much water was in the stone while it was forming. The white is where the water was. Copper is partially responsible for the color of the stone.Larimar is said to increase the wearer's skills of speech and communication. The energy of larimar relieves headaches, and easee stress and tension. This unique stone unites the elements of water and air, and represents peace and clarity, with healing and loving energy.
