Navajo artist, Emerson Kinsal, has crafted a beautiful sterling silver overlay men's belt buckle. He has an oval buckle with a bear design surrounded by highlight designs. It is truly unique and appealing. The buckle measures approximately 2-1/2" long and 2" tall. It would handle up to a 1-1/4" wide belt. He has stamped a backwards E joined with a forwards K--very distinctive on the inside of the buckle--along with 'sterling'. This would make a wonderful addition to your wardrobe! Overlay is a technique where a pattern is cut out of a sheet of silver or other metal (in this case, everything is sterling silver) much like making a stencil. The metal with the pattern cut out is soldered on to another piece of sterling silver. The bottom piece of sterling is oxidized until it goes dark or black. With polishing, the raised areas of the piece become brilliantly shines, and the silver in the recessed area stays dark--truly setting off the design in the top piece. This provides the contrast and depth in design so unique to overlay work. THE BEAR STORY: Many Native American Tribes honored the spirit of the bear as a magical being, the Shaman of the animal world. The Bear is considered a totem for healing, protection and good fortune. Item # BB-19 List price $ 150.00 Check out our website for other overlay items.
