CORAL

Coral is one of the very few natural materials that is red/orange in color. It offers the warmth and zest of an Italian summer day at the shore.

Coral is one of the few gemstones of organic origin. It is the skeletal remains of marine animals called coral polyps. Colonies of these tiny creatures build branching structures as they grow, gradually forming atolls and reefs. Most precious coral is found in warm waters—like the Mediterranean Sea. The oldest known findings of coral date from the Mesopotamian civilization from about 3000 BC.

The ancient faith in the protective and invigorating force of coral is perpetuated in the custom of putting a necklace of red coral around the neck of a small child.
