Paramount Pictures; 1929; dir: Victor Fleming; cast: Lupe Velez, Gary Cooper, Louis Wolheim, Constantine Romanoff, Michael Vavitch, Ann Brody, Russ Columbo, Augustina Lopez, George Regas.
Vintage original "Photoplay Edition" book from the early Paramount sound film drama starring Lupe Velez and Gary Cooper. This film has become quite famous in Cooper's career for the risque "nude bathing" scene which features Cooper skinny-dipping in a small body of water. The beautiful artwork on the cover of the dust jacket depicts Cooper wearing a frontiesrman style outfit and holding a rifle as he talks to the beautiful Miss Velez, who is seen wearing a mutli-layered yellow dress with a green shawl. Written by Harvey Fergusson and published by Grosset & Dunlap, this Photoplay Edition features 7 full-page black-and-white photographs from the film featuring beautiful images of Velez, Cooper and the film's co-stars in both publicity shots as well as scene stills.
This particular copy once belonged to the Story Department of Paramount Pictures, as there are multiple rubber stamps in purple inking stating "Return To Story Dept. Paramount Productions, Inc." as well as "Property of Community Circulating Library" and "Time Limit Two Weeks Return and Get Another." These stamps appear in the frontspiece and on the sides of bottom of various pages throughout the book and on the lower right corner of one of the full-page photos. The dust jacket is in very good+ condition with a small chip, tear and signs of wear along the upper edge of the front cover; a small chip at the top of the spine; small tears and light surface wrinkles along the upper edge of the back cover. The book itself is in good condition with a thin clear piece of Scotch tape reinforcing the line of the front cover along the spine; moderate signs of wear on the bottom of the spine; and light areas of surface wear on the front and back covers.
As a special bonus with this item, we have added two vintage original tinted magazine clippings from the film which both include images of Velez and Cooper.
