Associated First National PIctures; 1923: dir: John Francis Dillon; cast: Colleen Moore, Milton Sills, Elliot Dexter, Sylvia Breamer, Myrtle Stedman. Vintage original 27 x 41 in. (68.6 x 104.1 cm.) U.S. one-sheet poster, stone lithograph, linen-backed, fine condition. THIS VINTAGE ORIGINAL U.S. ONE-SHEET POSTER IS AN EXTREMELY RARE AND IMPORTANT PIECE: as far as we know, this is the only known copy of the U.S. one-sheet; this is a "lost" silent film, as only one reel is known to exist; this film is the first important "flapper" picture and spawned an entire genre of flapper-themed films. The renowned F. Scott Fitzgerald said of Colleen Moore: "I was the spark that lit up FLAMING YOUTH, Colleen Moore was the torch. What little things we are to have caused all that trouble."
The artwork on this stone lithograph one-sheet features a close shot of the beautiful young society girl, Patricia Fentress (Colleen Moore), sporting a heart-shaped tattoo on her upper right shoulder, in an embrace with the handsome young Dr. Bob (Elliott Dexter) as her mother, Connie (Betty Francisco) watches the young couple disapprovingly. The tag line at the top of the poster ("Why mother, you do it!") sums up the essence of the film's story in one short line. The lower portion of the poster features the film's credits in a cleverly designed "flaming" image of bright red with orange flickering flames around the outer edges. This poster has been professionally linen-backed and is in fine condition. There is very little restoration on this poster primarily along the top fold line that was most likely performed quite a few years ago. There was a small area of paper loss at the top center crossfold and in a portion of the top right fold line between man's shoulder and the mother's face. The center fold line has just the smallest bit of restoration and there is no restoration on the bottom fold line. The colors are very fresh and vibrant and there is no fading as evidenced by the distinction between the bright red background and the surrounding orange flames.
