KING KONG (1933)

KING KONG (1933)

Item: U.S. Lobby Card
SKU: CS-KINGKONGR52-SC4
Price: $100.00

Quantity:

RKO Radio Pictures; 1933; dir: Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack; cast: Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, Bruce Cabot, Frank Reicher. Vintage original 11 x 14 in. (27.9 x 35.6 cm.) U.S. lobby card, R-1952, near fine condition.

This vintage original lobby card is from RKO's 1952 theatrical reissue of the film, which was one of several theatrical re-releases of this extremely popular and iconic horror film. The image depicts a shot from the film's famous climax as John Driscoll (Bruce Cabot) rescues Ann Darrow (Fay Wray) from the top of the Empire State Building right after Kong has fallen off. Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong), Kong's captor, and a group of New York City policemen are on the landing below Driscoll. The squadron of biplanes that attacked and killed Kong are seen in the background as well as a predominant image of the famed Chrysler Building. The large border artwork on the right features a close shot of Kong which appears on one of the two original 3-sheet posters from the film's 1933 release. RKO issued a duotone set of lobby cards for the 1952 theatrical reissue with a blue/green tint. As stated in the lower right corner, this card is number 6 from the set of 8 cards. Measuring 11 x 14 in., this lobby card is in near fine condition with 1 pinhole in each corner (there are 3 pinholes in the bottom right corner), small creases and signs of wear at each corner, signs of wear along the top and bottom outer white borders and very small areas of light surface wrinkling. This rare original theatrical lobby card presents itself very well despite these minor flaws.

Original material from King Kong ranks among the most sought after of all of the classic 1930's horror films. Based upon a story by Merian C. Cooper and Edgar Wallace, King Kong was produced by the legendary David O. Selznick and featured state-of-the-art special effects by Willis J. O'Brien.
