Universal Pictures; 1935; dir: James Whale; cast: Boris Karloff, Colin Clive, Valerie Hobson, Ernest Thesiger, Elsa Lanchester. Vintage 8 x 10 in. (20.3 x 25.4 cm.) U.S. copy still photograph, excellent condition. The image depicts a close publicity shot of Boris Karloff as the Monster as he enters the bedroom of Dr. Henry Frankenstein. The lighting is very dramatic and creates an eerie effect, which heightens the burned flesh on his left arm and hand. The scars on his forehead, heavy eyelids and overall makeup was created by the legendary Jack Pierce, one of the greatest movie makeup artists of all time. Measuring 8 x 10 in., this older copy still was most likely printed in the 1960s or possibly earlier and is in fine condition with a 0.5 in. piece of Scotch tape in the upper right corner on the white border only and the same sized piece of Scotch tape on the lower portion of the left outer white border which extends slightly into the background area. The image quality is sharp and the contrast is very rich. BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN is one of the true classics of the American horror film genre and is one of the few movie sequels which is considered to be superior to the original film. In 2008, an original 1935 release one-sheet movie poster from BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN sold for almost $350,000!
