(55.9 x 71.1 cm.) half-sheet poster, unfolded, near fine condition. Directed by the renowned Clarence Brown, this silent film drama romance stars Hope Hampton and features Lon Chaney in a criminal-type role. This film was presumed lost until September 2003 when a near-complete print was discovered among a cache of 35mm nitrate film prints being stored in the garage of a former theater projectionist. The poster features a dramatically-lit image of Hope Hampton (as Bessie MacGregory) seated in a jury box as a strong beam of light beams down on her while the judge and jury listen intently. A larger shot of Miss Hampton appears in the upper left corner. This poster is unfolded (rolled) and has a 1.25" horizontal tear in the upper portion of the outer left border; a small chip on the left portion of the lower outer border; a light 0.5 in. vertical tear on the right portion of the lower outer border; and two small chips on the upper portion of the right outer border. There are small light signs of wear in the center of the upper outer border. The colors are fresh and vibrant. The caption in the lower outer border reads, "The glow from the stolen Grail lighted up the dark and dingy court room." Even though Chaney is not pictured, he was a major character in this film and this poster would be very desirable for Chaney completists. The image conveys the high drama of the Silent Era and this poster is even more beautiful when seen in person.
