ALAMO, THE (1960)

ALAMO, THE (1960)

Item: U.S. One-Sheet Poster
SKU: P-ALAMO-1S
Price: $300.00

Quantity:

United Artists; 1960; dir: John Wayne; cast: John Wayne, Richard Widmark, Laurence Harvey, Frankie Avalon, Richard Boone. Vintage original 27 x 41 in. (68.6 x 104.1 cm.) U.S. one-sheet poster, folded as originallly issued, good condition. "The Alamo" was Wayne's first credited effort as a director and the film was nominated for seven Academy Awards including "Best Picture," eventually taking home an Oscar for Best. The story tells the legendary true story of a small band of American soldiers who sacrificed their lives in hopeless combat against a massive Mexican army in order to prevent a tyrant from smashing the new Republic of Texas. The artwork on this one-sheet features a dominant full-length image of Wayne in the middle as he swings a large torch during one of the film's battle sequences. He is flanked by co-stars Richard Widmark (left) and Laurence Harvey (right). Folded as originally issued, this one-sheet is in good condition and is a candidate for linen-backing. There a multiple pinholes in each corner and large pinhole tears within all four borders as well as in the upper left and right areas of the image. There is a small area of foxing about the size of a dime in the white background area just below Laurence Harvey's last name. There is a 7" horizontal puncture line in the lower left area of the poster which probably occured from it being pulled while a tack was still holding it secure. The colors are very fresh and vibrant and this poster would grade as "near fine" if it were to be linen-backed and restored.
