Frequently Asked Questions:
1. What operating system options do you offer? All systems come pre-installed with Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2. It's 100% compatible with our entire line of products, it's a proven operating system, and is tweaked to give the maximum performance available. Windows Vista and Linux are not yet fully compatible with our product lines and are not yet offered as alternatives.
2. What is the ADS Pyro A/V Link that's included with your video editing systems? It's a firewire based external capture unit. It supports SVHS/SVideo, RCA Composite, and DV Input/Output. It lets you capture audio and video from a large assortment of gear.
3. What versions of software are included with your systems? We try to make sure that the latest versions of software are included with each system.
4. What does your warranty cover? What about the extended warranty? The warranty covers parts and labor for one year from purchase. The extended warranty covers parts and labor for the computer itself, but does not cover added peripherals (sound cards, video editing hardware.)
5. What brands are you using? We're currently using Viewsonic and Acer monitors, Intel Mainboards on our business class (CAD, Audio Editing, Video Editing) computers, Asus Mainboards on our gaming systems, Western Digital Hard Drives, and Kingston Memory.
6. Where are you located? Can I pick up my order locally? Currently we are located in the metro Detroit area, but may soon be moving to the Ann Arbor area. For now we aren't offering local pickup, but this may change. For now, take advantage of the free shipping!
7. What's the best way to contact you, phone or E-Mail? While we don't have a preference, E-Mail may be more convenient. We tend to answer E-Mails before and after hours and on weekends.
8. Does the Avid Xpress Pro software include the USB dongle? What's the difference between the educational version and the retail version? Why do you sell the educational version? Yes, it does include the USB dongle. The difference between the educational version and the retail version is about $1200. Other than that, they are functionally identical. We sell the educational version to make Avid more competitively priced with the Adobe and Vegas systems we sell. While we prefer Sony Vegas ourselves, Avid Xpress Pro is the industry standard, like Pro Tools in the audio world.
9. Can you recommend a system for me? Yes, buy the system that offers the most performance that you can afford. The faster the CPU, the more work you can get done in a shorter period of time. These systems are tools that are built for YOU to utilize in a profitable environment.
For video editors - Adobe Premiere Elements is an easy to use, inexpensive video editing program that is best suited for converting home videos, weddings, and basic projects. Sony Vegas is fairly easy to use and gives professional results, and is perfect for commercial endeavors, including producing movies. Avid Xpress Pro also gives professional results but has a higher learning curve. We recommend Avid to people that have experience with Avid or will be seeking employment with movie houses that use Avid.
For audio editors - Pro Tools is the industry standard, but Sonar will give you more flexibility. Pro Tools LE and M-Powered are limited to 32 tracks, where Sonar isn't.
For gamers - Intel CPUs are currently outperforming AMD.
