SORRY,BUT THIS BOOK HAS BEEN SOLD
THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF Oz L. Frank Baum
First Edition, Second State with "C" spine, rebacked
Published in 1900 by Geo. Hill Co. A very good copy which has been rebacked. That is, the pages have been re-signatured, new backcloth has been inlaid and the original spine from the book has been affixed to this book, as shown.
The endpapers have been replaced as shown. 20 of the 24 plates are present including the title page with the rubber stamp on the verso. The plates at pages 80 and 246 are misbound at pages 176 and 256. There is a closed 2" tear at the bottom of page 205. Plates opposite pages 170 as a 1'8" trim along the edge with some clear cello tape at the edge and a few small piece closing some tears at the top, not real noticeable. Plate at page 198 has about 1/8" trimmed along the edge. Plate at page 176 has 1/2" trim at edge. None of these trimmings affect the images.
Plates are missing at pages 14, 66, 184 and 246.
Overall the book is very solid and I would say in very good condition. Very readable. With a bit of spine slant. This would be a good book to have for a collector to fill in the first Oz book by Baum. Front and rear covers are relatively clean as shown. The spine has the "C" encircling the the "o". The colophon at the rear of the book reset in 13 lines without the box.
Basically general wear to the pages and few minor tears here and there, but nothing serious or offensive.
