Signaturs by three generations of Burroughs, in a very scarce Burroughs book, a premium item.
The Lad and The Lion
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Long considered the scarcest of the Edgar Rice Burroughs titles (I even have publications from the 1960's stating this) here we have a treasure. This treasure is from my own collection, which I have had for about twenty years.
The book itself is in beautiful condition, as I have shown you from the photos. It is signed by John Coleman Burroughs, the son of Edgar Rice Burroughs, who did the illustrations for the dust jacket and the interior illustrations. John was a great person, full of charisma. He has inscribed this book to "Cart" : "To Cart With all good wishes John Coleman Burroughs (with symbol) 7/25/63" Below that is the signature of Danton Burroughs (which I had personally signed by Danton years ago. Danton is also one terrific guy, and the grandson of Edgar Rice Burroughs). I also have enclosed a counter receipt signed by Edgar Rice Burroughs from 1936, which lays in nicely into the book. (Signed checks are too long and stick out of the book.)Sorry, I was not around to have the great Edgar Rice Burroughs sign this book!). So with this book you have a legacy in three signatures, in arguably the scarcest Burroughs book! (Personally, I think "Jungle Girl" and "The Bandit of Hell's Bend" - the American first editions- are the scacest to acquire in jackets from my experience.
Get this book if you can, I probably will only offer this book this one time for sale.
Thank you for looking. Thank you for appreciating Edgar Rice Burroughs and keeping him "alive." Burroughs was the greatest escapist literature author in the universe who influence everyone in the writing field, including my favorite living author Ray Bradbury, who at age 12 wrote a sequel to "The Gods of Mars" - which I personally think is in the top three of the best Burroughs books ever written! May God Bless You!
