John Tenniel Curiouser Giclée print from Alice in Wonderland
SKU: JAM20
"Curiouser and Curiouser" print, From the original edition of Alice in Wonderland
This is a Giclée print taken from the original print that was printed from the original woodblock engraving which was used for the publication in the first edition book "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" published in London, England in 1865.
The scanned printed image as it appears in the print you are considering is shown below at the end of the description.
Directly below is the head detail from this print, that is not seen in the Alice In Wonderland books with the Tenniel illustrations (especially in the later printings as the publishers re-issued and re-struck the plates):

The card stock on which this image is printed is 11 inches by 8-1/2 inches, ready to frame. The image of Alice is 3 inches by 8 inches--(it is enlarged from the original size of the original print to better see the fine detail) and was published in the original 1865 Alice book. This image is clear, all the lines are are the way the illustration was intended to be-about as close as one can get to viewing the image in its true integrity and line work that was seen in the first or very early editions-without trying to find or buy one of the few woodblock prints taken off the original block.
Printing plates were made again and again from the original wood engraved blocks that were used to print the editions of "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through The Looking Glass," and they wore down as the books were re-published and hence image quality suffered.
This print is from an original block print in the possession of noted California artist John Anthony Miller.
NOTE: The actual print you will be purchasing is MUCH clearer than the scan shown here. Just look at the detail on Alice's face, then look at the same picture in any Alice in Wonderland book.
