John Tenniel Alice JABBERWOCKY print
SKU: JAM16
Jabberwocky print from Alice in Wonderland
You are bidding on a printed scan taken from the original print that was printed from the original woodblock engraving which was used for the publication in the first edition book "Through The Looking Glass" published in London, England in 1872.
The scanned printed image is shown here. Even this image, reduced and shown through your computer monitor seems to appear much clearer and shows more line detail than those shown in most "Looking Glass" books published now, or over the past years.
The enlarged image is nearly 8 inches by 11--(is enlarged from the original size of course to better see the fine detail) and was published in the original 1872 book. This image is clear, all the lines are are the way the illustration was intended to be-about as close as one can get to viewing the image in its true integrity and line work that was seen in the first or very early editions-without trying to find or buy one of the few woodblock prints taken off the original block. Printing plates were made again and again from the original wooden engraving blocks that were used to print the editions of "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through The Looking Glass," and they wore down as the books were re-published and hence image quality suffered.
This scan you are bidding on was printed using inkjet technolology on quality paper from an original block print in the possession of noted California artist John Anthony Miller.
