Gaston Leroux THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA first edition

Gaston Leroux THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA first edition
SKU: HV9

SORRY THIS BOOK HAS BEEN SOLD!

The Phantom Of The Opera

Gaston Leroux

This is the first American edition of this horror classic, made famous by Lon Chaney as "The Phantom"-

This copy was published in 1911 by The Bobbs-Merrill Company in New York and had the Andre Castaigne color illustrations as fold-out plates including a color frontispiece showing the phantom descending the ballroom staircase.

There is some general wear to the volume, the front hinge inside the book is beginning to separate at the top. the rest is intact. The printing on the spine is quite legible, making this an already desirable copy, as most copies seem to have the white lettering flaked off. The binding design was by the great book designer Margaret Armstrong.
