George Barr McCutcheon
Here is an interesting author. Mainly forgotten in 2007. Once he was widely read and one of the most popular authors of his day. Yet, no one has really heard much of him these days, except for his association with Harrison Fisher as the illustrator of many of his books. Fisher is well-known for his sort of sultry Victorian woman on book cover and in magazines.
Book Description: NY Dodd, Mead 1904., 1904. Near fine in the rare dust jacket. Slight chipping to top of spine. "Tape" ghosting to some of the edges of the dust jacket, notably the edge wear the rear panel meets the spine panel. The jacket is split at the seam along the edge where the rear jacket panel meets the spine panel. I have the jacket in a removable jacket protector, as shown in the photo which holds it together nicely. Quite rare in the 1904 jacket. McCutcheon considered this work one of his lesser labors of love, and felt that he "forced" the book to "happen." He considered it also a boring novel. Photo available on request. First edition. Illustrated by Harrison Fisher. 1st Edition.
