Edward Borein Etching-"Chasing A Longhorn No. 2"-First Edition
This is a print from a copper plate in my collection, acquired several years ago. Upon research it was found to never have been printed and supposedly given as a gift by Borein to a friend. Edward Borein (1872-1945) was a contemporary of Remington and Russell, and his art is of equal quality, and is revered and highly sought after by collectors. Copper is the preferred etching metal (as it is hard) and will produce nice impressions up to about 500 prints, after which is will start to show plate wear. Zinc plate is the other metal used in producing etchings, and will not hold as fine a line, and will print sometimes up to 200 prints before is will start to show wear. This print shows no line wear.
I am a professional etcher and engraver also dealing in rare books and etchings and have printed up a small number of this wonderfully balanced Edward Borein etching on cream 130 pound Somerset print paper. Each of these prints was hand-pulled several years ago and is signed, titled for Edward Borein.
The print is included in the Harold Davidson book "Edward Borein, The Update" and was titled by him as "Chasing A Longhorn No. 2".
It also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Specifics of the original Borein etching: Paper size is 9-1/2" by 11" and the image size is 4" by 5". The actual piece of fine art is shown here and was taken out its Mylar protector for the photograph.-John Anthony Miller
