Musa 'Siam Ruby' WOOOWEEE! Now this is just a good looking plant all around.About a year ago if you could find this banana at all, it would have been at a great expense. Thought to be from New Guinea as a sport of Musa tapo, this burgandy banana with lime green splatters will serve as a fantastic centerpiece in the tropical garden. The more sun it is in, the more intense the color. Although we have not fruited it yet ourselves, it is said to be a good eating fruit with a very dark skin. Zones 9-10
The plants that we have right now are very large, well established plants about 18-24" tall. Very nice, fantastic color!
Red Abyssinian Banana Ensete ventricosum has some of the most colorful leaves in the genus. They look as if they were painted with long graceful strokes. Fantastic specimen plant! Zones 9-11
Calathea lancifolia Awesome brightly colored leaves are the hallmark of this fabulous ginger cousin. The undersides of the leaves are a bright maroon and a great contrast to the spotted leaf surface. This Calathea is one of the hardest to find and certainly one of the most rewarding to grow.
Medinilla miniata Yes, that's right, the Red Magnifica!This Medinilla is so rare, we have been searching for it for a number of years. Intense red clusters of flowers are tinged with hot purple. The foliage is phenominal as well, with it's huge oval leaves growing in an umbrella like canopy over the blooms.
Microsorium thailandicum A few of you might have seen this metallic blue-green fern in person. The leaves are positively irridescent! For best color, keep it growing in a shady area.
Areca vestiaria This colorful Indonesian native seems to have every attribute a collector could want. First and foremost is the striking red petioles and crownshaft which contrast nicely against the dark green leaves.
Coccothrinax miraguama This fantastic fan palm is a Cuban native and close relative to the highly sought after ‘Old Man Palm’ (Coccothrinax crinita). Besides the obvious appeal of being a fan palm, it's reported to be tolerant of cooler temps than a lot of palms (Zone 9b).
Dictyosperma album Hailing from a small group of islands east of Madagascar, it's virtually extinct in its native habitat due to its tasty palm heart. D. album also known for its ability to endure salt and very high winds. A highly desirable trait when you landscape in hurricane prone coastal areas.
