This fantastic fan palm is a Cuban native and close relative to the highly sought after ‘Old Man Palm’ (Coccothrinax crinita). Besides the obvious appeal of being a fan palm, it's reported to be tolerant of cooler temps than a lot of palms (Zone 9b). It's seldom offered likely due to its slow growth habit, but that may be a plus for skilled northern growers who wish try it as an indoor palm or keep it as a specimen in a hot house. While it's not a self cleaner, a little help is worth the effort to reveal the handsome fibrous sheaths that resemble old burlap.
