Argillite - Bear Mother Myth and the Myth of Raven - VII-B-1825
SKU: 510308
This pole includes the Bear Mother Myth and the Myth of Raven breaking his beak on a hook while stealing Halibut. It was collected between 1893 and 1895 by Wilbert Simpson: 37.1 cm high. The argillite reproduction pieces are moulded from casts of original argillite Haida carvings from the Canadian Museum of Civilization's collections. Argillite is a soft slate found only on Haida Gwaii (the Queen Charlotte Islands); it was first quarried in the 1820's on Slatechuck Mountain.
