From 1800-1950 our mothers used cloth flour & feed bags for every conceivable domestic purpose. They unpicked the seams, bleached out text and patched holes. Then by hand or machine they sewed the bags into tea towels, diapers, curtains, undergarments, pillow slips, clothing, sheets, and quilts. In their leisure they crocheted and knitted lace, embroidered, and tatted fancy work to decorate their sewing.
