Aries Wireless Essentials™ is a one semester professional IT course that covers the characteristics and behaviors of radio waves, along with the radio frequency (RF) technologies used in wireless LANs. The WLAN planning, installation, operation and configuration techniques are also integrated into these lessons. This Course prepares students for industry endorsed exams. Aries Wireless Essentials™ will discuss the various standard groups and other organizations that contribute to the WLAN standards. The classification of networks, based on the area of coverage, will be defined and the major WLAN standards will be explained. The characteristics and behaviors of radio waves will be described, along with the radio frequency (RF) technologies used in wireless LANs. WLAN topologies, components, and their operation are also described, as are planning, installation, and configuration. Security is a very important consideration for any network. WLAN security weaknesses, possible attacks that are known, and some of the solutions to prevent them will be discussed. Additional applications will be observed and some troubleshooting tips and techniques will be provided. The course concludes with miscellaneous resources that will address the question: Where do I go form here? Information presented throughout the course will be supported with links to websites. Additional links pertaining to certification information and other pertinent sites will also be provided. This course is written with the overall objective, that after successful completion, the user will have the ability to set up their own wireless LAN.
