Made throughout eastern Africa wh= ere renewable and sustainable deciduous tree resources are plentiful, they se= ll for more than $20 in US home décor stores. We are able to offer them at moderate pr= ices by contracting directly with the artisan at fair trade prices. The sh= ape and style is imaginative and unique to these east African artists. Being finely crafted by hand from natural materials, no two sets or spoons, how= ever similar, are identical. Left and right facing are availab= le, if this is important to you make your selection from the drop down menu. = Carved from a single piece of exotic deciduous wood they range from pale yellow through light brown and in dai= ly use amongst the indigenous people as practiced for centuries. Being hand made some minor imperfections maybe expected. These add to the beauty and uniqueness of the product. Deciduous wood: Varieties of non-indigenous trees such as mango, poplar, or salig= na gum (Eucalyptus saligna) are used. We actively encourage the use of these woods to protect indigenous forests, which a= re under constant pressure due to the demand for carvings.
