Country:	Mozambique	Original, reversible, signed rural African activities batik by Batista depicts teenage girls returning home = with water and firewood along a grassy stretch of land. Dressed in traditional= -style clothes and bare foot (indicative of a warm climate) with ear jewelry, th= ey carry the water and firewood, as per custom on their heads. The water is carrie= d in a clay grass-fired pot The teenagers, possible sister or relatives, are bare-breasted which traditionally means unmarried maidens. Men do not do chores of this nature, young boys, women, and girls are traditionally the laborers in these rural societies. A very talented member of the Shangaan Tribe, who originally came f= rom far eastern southern Africa, mainly present day Mozambique, South Africa,= and Swaziland, produced the vibrant earth tones batik. Peruse and scrutinize = the superb artistry. When back l= it, the = fair trade batik shows like stained glass. Being handcrafted no two tapestries, however similar, are identical. The artist created an original and unique design (in wax) then dipp= ed and dried the batik repeatedly in the sun, until achieving the desired effect. The hot wax holds and resists as the dyes are brushed or dipped o= nto the piece of cotton material (fabric). Batik is an ancient art using colo= rful dyes and hot wax that has been embraced by many artists throughout Africa= . Cotton canvas: thick 100% African cotton is used for the canvas.<= o:p> Décor uses: Beautiful wall decorations framed or unframed in singles or as a collage of several batiks. The batik is offered unframed so that the purchaser may choose how = best to display it, choosing the style and color to match an existing décor and theme. It shows best when light is allowed to illuminate it from behind o= n a clear glass or similar backing, however, it shows equally well on a backi= ng or as a wall hanging.
