Country:	Kenya	An energetic rural African (possibly Luo) musician plays three trad= itional bongo drums. With a club-like drumstick in his left hand he pounds the dr= ums The musician wears colorful traditional African handprint, home-crafted, cott= on dress. Traditional music is an important and integral part of east African cultu= re performed at many festive ceremonies, religious events, and political ral= lies. Drums were traditionally made from hollowed out tree trunks with decorative paintings or carvings and covered with a stretched tanned catt= le or wild animal rawhide as the vellum. Today, they are often made from discarded metal paint, paraffin (kerosene) or cooking oil metal drums. This traditional music-the= med batik shows Kiwanuka's typical distinctive, vibrant, and abstract style. The signed, original abstract pastel paint and pen batik, on 100% medium to heavy cotton canvas, sells = for more than $60 in the USA. We are able to offer them at moderate prices by contracting direct= ly with the artisan at fair trade prices.
