Country:	Kenya East Africa	This African savannah scene decorative shallow bowl was hand carved out of natural sto= ne. Five different scenes, circled with a trim of tooth-pattern, predominantl= y in black on mottled sienna, show three different animals on the savannah etc= hed into the Kisii soapstone at each cardinal compass point and in the center. The north and south scenes show a rhinoceros. The east and west scenes sh= ow the world’s largest land animal, an African elephant, trunk up, walking. The south scene is a grazing zebra. The colorful, abstract style is imaginative and unique to these east African artists. Decorated by hand some imperfections maybe expected. These add to the beauty and uniqueness of the product. No two dishes, however similar, are identical. Kisii soapstone: raw soapstone quarried in the Tabaka region of Ken= ya was worked to form the dish.
